Delhi is truly the cultural melting pot of India and what’s better proof of it than Jama Masjid? This is the largest mosque in India and totally soaked into history. Any of the tour packages in Delhi is incomplete without a visit to Jama Masjid. The best part about it- it stands at the opposite direction of Red Fort, across the road. So you can take a tour of these two incredible structures on a single day. Before you include this mosque in your schedule of Delhi Agra tour, just keep it in mind that this place demands appropriate clothes on a visitor. Because it’s located in Old Delhi, you can expect many over-crowded lanes surrounding the mosque. But once you stand in front of the mosque, it will blow your mind away. This mosque was built during the time period of 1664-1656 by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Jama Masjid casts a spell on the visitors with its beautiful calligraphy and red sandstone-plus-white marble made minarets. The vastness of the courtyard will surprise you, more so, as it can accommodate 25,000 devotes at one time. If you want to squeeze out the real serenity of Jama Masjid to the fullest; then the best time of visiting it would be after the evening prayer. You must climb up the stairs of one of the two minarets and see how ethereal old Delhi looks while the sun is setting down. The opening timings of the mosque are 7.00 AM- 12.00 PM and 1.30 PM-6.30 PM.
